Hillcrest High School Ottawa

50th Anniversary (May 2011) Financial Update

On Tuesday January 24th 2012, Jan Cook, Sandi Plett and Lynne Bowes, representing the Hillcrest High School 50th Anniversary Organizing Committee, met with the Hillcrest High School Community Council in the Hillcrest High School Library.  At this time, Hillcrest Principal, Reg Lavergne, was presented with three cheques, each for $2,400.00, which he will forward to the Hillcrest Art Department, Music Department and Phys Ed Department.  It was requested that each of these 3 departments provide us with a brief report showing a status update on disposition of the funds, with a list of items purchased, so we can advise the alumni as to where the funds were used.

The Council extended their thanks to the efforts of the Fundraising Committee, and the generosity of hundreds of alumni in attendance, for this money, which was raised during the May 13th - 15th 2011 Hillcrest Ottawa 50th Anniversary Weekend events.  Although this was a non-profit event, this fund-raising for the school included a live auction, raffle of donated prizes, bar tips, sales of logo promo shirts & other items, donations, a commemorative dvd, and the ongoing efforts of Sandi to produce Impact dvd sales.  A bronze memorial plaque was also donated to remember all those alumni & staff who could not be with us to celebrate - it has been installed on a rock garden at the front of the school.

The 50th Committee began with small amount of seed money raised at a previous event (approx. $1000) and this remains in the 50th Anniversary Committee's bank account, as a reserve to be used to provide start-up funds for a Hillcrest Ottawa Alumni Association, incl. maintenance of the website, and to help with future Hillcrest Alumni Events and Reunion undertakings. The next event will be our 2nd Annual HHS Golf Tournament to take place June 22, 2012.
